Binghamton
women's tennis sweeps two matches, topping UConn and Air Force
by indentical 5-2 scores
WEST
POINT, N.Y.--A year after starting off 0-10, the rapidly-improving
women's tennis team (4-3) reeled off its two biggest wins in
program history, sweeping Air Force and Connecticut this weekend
by indentical 5-2 scores. The Bearcats have now won three consecutive
matches.
"These two matches were very big for us," head coach
Mike Stevens said. "Our players used the game plans we had
talked about heading into this weekend. It's a big step forward
for us."
Sophomores Zeynep
Altinay (Antalya, Turkey) and Jelena
Koprivica (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Alyssa
Freeman (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) each swept their three singles
matches. Altinay is now 17-4 this season at No. 1 singles. Koprivica
won her two matches at No. 3 singles while Freeman competed at
No. 5 singles.
The Bearcats won five of six singles matches against Air Force
but lost the doubles point. They also won four of six singles
