The
Binghamton University women's tennis team opened the fall season
at the Bucknell Invitational, a non-scoring event. Rain halted
play at the invitational midway through Saturday's action, and
play on Sunday was completely rained out. Justina had a great first college match, Campbell said. She has great energy and a competitive drive on the court. At the C flight, junior Erin Monaco (Bayside, N.Y.) rallied to win a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-3) match over her opponent from Pittsburgh. Senior Kristin Jobe (Texas City, Texas), however, lost to a Bucknell opponent 6-2, 6-4. Erin made a great comeback, said Campbell. She consistently moved the ball well and got stronger as the match went on. Finally, at the D Flight, sophomore Amy Linda (Bronx, N.Y.) won her match against a Bloomsburg player 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Jonali Dutta (Glenville, N.Y.) defeated her opponent from Loyola 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-5). Up next for the Bearcats is the Quinnipiac Invitational, which will be held Sept. 27-29. The tournament will not have team scoring. In addition to the host team, Connecticut, Army, UMBC, Dartmouth, Hartford and Stony Brook are in the field. This weekend will be much more challenging, Campbell said. Weve never faced Connecticut and we are anxious to go up against our conference teams (Hartford and Stony Brook) to see what kind of depth they have. |
