Nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina defeats Binghamton women's tennis 6-1

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Binghamton women's tennis team (4-4) faced its toughest opponent of the season, losing 6-1 to undefeated and nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina (14-0) 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Chanticleers are currently ranked No. 58 in the nation by College Tennis Online and tied at No. 75 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.

Binghamton's lone win came at No. 2 singles, where freshman Juliana Umeki (Mogidas Cruises, Brazil) improved to 11-1 in singles matches since joining the squad last month. She defeated Petra Jantti 6-2, 7-5 to win her eighth dual match in as many outings.

Binghamton heads to UNC-Wilmington for a 10 a.m. match on Thursday.
