Binghamton hosted Colgate in its first home match of the spring season this past Saturday night, but fell to the visiting Red Raiders 5-2. The Bearcats swept the top two singles flights and triumphed at second doubles, but it was not enough to pull out the victory.

Junior Janine Sadaka (Great Neck, N.Y.) and freshman Justina Hakimi (Manhasset, N.Y./Herricks) won at first and second singles by scores of 6-2, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-2 respectively. At second doubles, senior Kristin Jobe (Texas City, Texas) and sophomore Amy Linda (Bronx, N.Y./ LaGuardia) won 8-6.

“We’ve improved since our match against Army last week,” head coach Jamie Campbell said. “We dominated the first two singles flights and played it tight at fourth and sixth singles. The week of practice since the Army match helped and when we face Villanova in two weeks, we will be even better.”

Sophomore Alexis Brill (Syosset, N.Y.) was Binghamton’s player at fourth singles and she hung tough before losing 6-4, 6-4. Linda was at sixth singles and lost 6-4, 6-2.

Binghamton’s other two singles players, senior Amy Weissberg (Syosset, N.Y.) and Jobe, lost at third and fifth singles respectively. Weissberg fell 6-3, 6-1 while Jobe was defeated 6-2, 6-3.

At first doubles, freshman Jenilee Brohm (Norcross, Ga./ St. Pius Catholic) made her Binghamton debut with Hakimi. The duo was defeated, however, 8-1. Brill and Weissberg lost at third doubles, also by 8-1.

“It was good for Jenilee to play,” Campbell said. “She has been sick so we held her out last weekend. I’d like to keep her and Justina together at first doubles in the future. She will start to play singles as well and it will really bolster our lineup.”
