Bearcats
win fourth straight match, blanking Hartford 7-0
VESTAL,
N.Y.. - The Binghamton women's tennis team (4-10, 4-2 AE) won
its fourth consecutive match on Saturday, defeating Hartford
(1-11, 1-4 AE) 7-0 at the West Gym Tennis Courts. With the victory,
the Bearcats concluded the regular season in a tie for third
place in the America East Conference. The America East Conference
Tournament will be held April 30-May 2 at the Connecticut Tennis
Center.
Freshman Melis Altinay (Antalya, Turkey) won at first
singles for the eighth time in a row, defeated Ani Mora 6-1,
6-0. She raised her record on the season to 16-7. At second singles,
fellow freshman Lya Kushnirovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won
6-0, 6-0 over Halley Werner. Playing in her final home match
of her career, senior Janine Sadaka (Great Neck, N.Y.)
won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. Also winning their matches were
freshman Vera Popova (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at fourth singles
and sophomore Sherri Stern (Commack, N.Y.) at fifth singles.
Binghamton won at sixth singles by default.
Kushnirovich and Sadaka won at first doubles, 8-1, while Altinay
and Stern recorded an 8-0 win at second doubles. Binghamton won
by default at third doubles.
