Amy Weissberg (Syosset, N.Y.), who just completed an impressive four-year collegiate career on the womens tennis team, has been honored as one of 21 America East Conference Scholar Athlete winners for the 2002-03 academic year. She earned the award by virtue of her outstanding tennis and academic endeavors at Binghamton. Weissberg
was a consistent Deans List student during her years at
Binghamton, graduating with a 3.53 GPA. On the tennis court,
she was named all-conference in both her junior and senior seasons.
This past spring, Weissberg was given Binghamtons Senior Merit Award, for not just her athletic accomplishments, but her academic efforts as well as her volunteer roles throughout the community. She was a three-year PEER-Pride representative, was part of several team and campus projects and was a volunteer mentor for an elementary school girl. Amy has been a role model both on and off the court, said Jamie Campbell, her head coach all four years at Binghamton. She is a dedicated and goal oriented person and who is very deserving of this award. Weissberg is the second Binghamton student athlete to receive this award from the America East Conference. Adam Fuchs, who starred for the golf team the past four years, was honored last year. Like Weissberg, Fuchs also graduated this past spring. In order to be eligible for the America East Conferences Scholar Athlete Award, a student athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be a starter or top reserve on their team. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible for the award. |
