Binghamton University Scholarships
University scholarships are awarded based on academic profile and financial need. Since most Binghamton scholarships are need-based, student must file the federal FAFSA to be considered. We recommend you file the FAFSA by February 1 for the upcoming academic year in order to receive maximum consideration for scholarships. *Incomplete or invalid FAFSAs could eliminate a student from scholarship consideration.* Most scholarships at Binghamton University are awarded in the early spring for the following Fall/Spring semesters.
Awarding of freshmen scholarships is based on the student’s academic profile submitted for admission and financial aid information derived from the FAFSA. No additional applications are required. The majority of scholarships at Binghamton University are reserved for returning students who have demonstrated their academic abilities at our University. As a highly selective school, all of our incoming students are ‘top of their class’ during high school, therefore donors prefer to wait to see how the student is able to perform while in a college-setting of their peers.
Continuing students are automatically reviewed for scholarship eligibility if they have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. Typically the only other qualification is to have a current FAFSA on file, although a few of the scholarships may also require an additional application.
Graduate students are also encouraged to check out the Binghamton University Graduate School’s website for information on assistantships and fellowships.
International students interested in attending Binghamton University should review what help may be offered through the Office of International Student & Scholar Services. Binghamton University Financial Aid Services is only able to provide funding to qualified U.S. citizens, permanent residents or other eligible non-citizens. Our office does not offer scholarships or awards for international students; however, some lenders may provide alternative education loans to international students who are able to provide a co-signer who meets the citizenship criteria.
Binghamton University encourages students to pursue other avenues of scholarships, otherwise known as “Outside Scholarships”. Many departments post information on outside scholarships and we also encourage you to use free scholarships search sites (Be careful never to pay to have someone locate possible scholarships for you – this information is available to you online for free!). We offer quick links to some recommended sites below. In addition, local service organizations such as Rotary Club, Kiwanis, etc, as well as your parents’ employers, may be another source of information. Should you receive a scholarship from an agency outside of Binghamton University be sure to send a copy of your scholarship confirmation notice to the Student Accounts Office, Binghamton University, P.O.
