o Develop a community-owned grocery store to provide access to healthy, affordable food, support local farmers and producers, create local jobs, and enhance the community.
• Meet the Farmer – Dinner event that brings together community members, local farms, and local restaurants and provides a model for local sourcing and its economic effects.
Position Objectives – Are you competent in more than one of these areas? Work with a team of interns and professionals to:
• Research business development models for buy local networks and cooperative businesses
• Assist in event planning
• Draft business plan (Pro Formas), feasibility studies, and site selection processes
• Negotiate and network with local businesses, farmers, producers, and community members
• Manage grant appropriation, Quick Books, General Ledger
• Engage in business promotion; membership and organizational recruitment
• Interest in sustainable economic development, social equity, and building better communities
• Experience in business development
• Ability to act as an independent “self-starter”
Time Commitment: May be tailored to the students’ schedules and availability. Design the Internship for academic credit. Stipend is available in limited circumstances. Submit cover letter describing relevant skills, experiences, as well as career objectives.
