Grassroots community work on many issues – health care reform on both state and federal levels, comprehensive immigration reform, equitable education funding and school equity issues on all levels from pre-K through graduate school, good government issues with focus on public financing of elections, preservation and enhancement of Social Security, and other issues as they arise. Citizen Action is a movement for change, fighting for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, and elects progressive candidates to office.
Opportunity to increase awareness about these issues and how they impact our society. Opportunity to assist in hosting public informational forums, preparing press events, visiting with elected representatives.
Opportunity to work in coalition with other organizations including Alliance for Quality Education, Alliance for Retired Americans, League of Women Voters, Sierra Club, Social Security Works, Working Families Party, AFL-CIO Labor Council, BU Democracy Matters, Labor – Religion Coalition and many many others.
Opportunity to help create flyers, press releases, other materials - to research information needed for programs – to participate in phone banking on issues and candidates.
Needed Skills: Passion and a commitment to social, racial, economic justice. Excellent verbal, telephone, reading, writing, and computer abilities. Needed help in expanding our media reach with both traditional media (press conferences, letters to the editor) and social media – we need your youthful skills in this arena.
Commitment: 8-10 hours per week mostly day/evening. Your time commitment should be roughly a semester in length.
