How Can You Help the CDC?

Hire a Binghamton Student
With your student at BU, you personally understand the quality of our students.  Encourage your employer to use our eRecruiting service to post internships, summer jobs, and permanent opportunities and to consider attending our job fairs. More information is on the Employer section of our web site.

Share Your Expertise
Love your career field? Share it!  Being a presenter through CDC’s programs can offer BU students the opportunity to learn from professionals such as you.  Are you in charge of recruiting at your organization?  Do you have a unique background and major?  Are you knowledgeable on topics such as professional development, job searching, transferable skills, or other career related topics?  The CDC can work with you to create a program that would help benefit Binghamton students.  If you are interested in exploring these kinds of opportunities, please contact Nancy Paul, Director, at npaul@binghamton.edu.

Participate in NYC Employer Visits
In our efforts to bring students to various work sites for career exploration and networking, CDC coordinates NYC employer visits during winter break.  This is a great opportunity for organizations to develop a relationship with the University, meet interested students, and showcase career opportunities.  Encourage your employer to participate and gain visability among the Binghamton community.  For more information about the Employer Visits, contact Bill McCarthy, Associate Director at bmccarth@binghamton.edu.

Become an Alumni Career Network Volunteer
Many Binghamton parents are also Binghamton alumni.  Hopefully you are already aware of the BU alumni online community, B-connected, that includes the Alumni Career Network (ACN).  The ACN is an online means of connecting professionals like yourself with students or other alumni who are interested in your field of work.  Over 3000 alumni are currently enrolled in the Alumni Career Network and the number is growing.

As an Alumni Career Network Volunteer you control what information is shared with the requestor, as well as how and when you prefer to be contacted.  You may select to speak with only students, only alumni or both. You may also inactivate your volunteer status at any time and reactivate it with the click of a button.   As an Alumni Career Network Volunteer you may be contacted, via the contact method you prefer, by a student or fellow graduate seeking information about your profession.

At the Career Development Center, we find students searching the Alumni Career Network in several ways.  Some select by “major” to see what alumni with this major are now doing professionally.  Other students select by “profession” to learn what positions alumni hold in a particular profession.  In almost every case, students have expressed both surprise (at the number of alumni who are participating) and gratitude (for learning what alumni are doing professionally).

To volunteer for the Alumni Career Network visit Binghamton University Alumni Association's Online Community to update your profile.  While there, click on “Alumni Career Network Home” and sign up.

Give to the CDC
In our ongoing efforts to enhance services and resources for students, CDC seeks financial support.  Consider directing your BU donation specifically to the Career Development Center.
