Career Counseling & Assessment
Career counselors work with students from their freshman year and on through the senior year to help clarify interests, values, and abilities and explore majors and career paths that may be the best fit for the student.  In addition to career direction many other issues are often discussed including graduate school options, job searching strategies, and interviewing techniques. For initial conversations about major, career decisions, and for resume or cover letter review, refer your student to CDC's Counselor on Call hours.   CDC also offers career assessment instruments, however the student must first meet with a counselor to discuss assessment options, need, and expectations. Students should both visit CDC independent of their parent.

Programs
The CDC provides a diverse schedule of programs to assist students in a full range of career development needs.  Past seminars have included Grad School: Assessing Programs, Institutions, and Possibilities; "Tell Me About Yourself;" Resume Writing; Etiquette Crash Course; and alumni and employer panels.  Most programs are of no cost to the student and offer the chance to interact with CDC staff as well as the opportunity to ask questions.  Programs are offered at various times throughout the semester in order to best meet the needs of the students.

Special Events
The CDC hosts several special events throughout the course of the year.  In the Fall semester, the Graduate School Fair and Law Day offer students the opportunities to meet with school representatives.  In both the Fall and Spring semesters the Job & Internship Fair allows students to interact with recruiters and learn about potential job opportunities.  These recruiters come from both local and distant organizations.  Other events include the Nursing Forum and Teacher Recruitment Days.

On-Campus Recruiting
The On Campus Recruiting program at Binghamton University provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to interview with hiring organizations for full-time permanent and internship positions. Employers from a variety of for-profit, non-profit, and government organizations (link to who recruits at BU once it’s finalized) have participated in past semesters.  In addition, students are strongly encouraged to attend employer information sessions to learn more about recruiting organizations and make initial contact with employers.  All interview and information session schedules are managed through eRecruiting.

eRecruiting
eRecruiting is the online system the Career Development Center uses to manage the On Campus Recruiting Program, Job & Internship Posting Service, and Resume Books. It enables students and registered alumni to access postings 24/7. All Binghamton students have unrestricted access to this system and are encouraged to utilize its services beginning as early as their freshman year. Users may upload resumes and cover letters, search and apply for jobs and internships, and publish resumes to the Resume Books. eRecruiting's Experience Network allows students to conduct a broader job search by accessing a national network of employers, including opportunities from Careerbuilder.com, Hotjobs.com, and Dice.com. Links to additional career resources are also provided within eRecruiting, including career, industry and city profiles.

Job Search Assistance
CDC’s goal is to assist students in developing life-long career development skills that will enable them to be successful long after they graduate from Binghamton. Our counselors are available to help students navigate the job search process, from deciding what type of career to pursue, to developing resumes cover letters, to identifying openings.  Once offered a position, the CDC can offer advice on evaluating the job offer, salary negotiations, and how to accept or decline the position.

Credentials Service
A credentials file is a place to keep specific documents used to support application for employment, internships and/or graduate/professional school.  Items are photocopied by CDC staff and mailed to prospective employers or graduate schools at the student’s or employer’s request, depending on the authorization option selected when opening the file. Original documents always remain in the file and become the property of CDC once submitted.

Career Resource Area
The CDC offers a resource area complete with computers and an extensive library of materials to aid students in researching majors and occupations, conduct a job or internship search, and identify graduate schools.  The Career Resource Area is open during the academic year from 10am–4pm and during the summer from 10am–3pm.

Alumni Career Network
The Alumni Career Network (ACN) is an online searchable database of more than 2,600 Binghamton alumni who have volunteered to be contacted by students and alumni who would like advice and guidance with regard to career paths, employers, graduate programs, etc.  It is designed to help students connect with alumni and tap their talents and insight and should not be used as an employment or placement program. Students are able to search the database based on a variety of criteria including career goals, academic aspirations and/or geographic preferences.

OptimalResume & OptimalInterview
The Career Development Center offers OptimalResume & OptimalInterview as a service to all students. The resume portion assists students in the development and formatting of their resumes; OptimalInterview provides a mechanism for reviewing interview questions in video format and the opportunity to develop a response. The virtual coach provides tips and guidance on what employers are seeking.
