On March 1, 2010, I retired from the Chemistry Department to devote more time to my writing, research and a renewable energy business. I’d like to thank all my laboratory and lecture students, especially those whose intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm made teaching such a rewarding experience for me. Your questions and insights are reflected in books and research I’ve published including my recently published Energy and Entropy (Springer, 2010). I am completing a quantum mechanics book and beginning a biophysical chemistry book. Also, Totally Immersed, a set of two non-science books documenting the trials and tribulations of a family with a scientific father adjusting to life in France and Poland will be available shortly through the website starzakbooks.com.
I also have more time to devote to my renewable energy company (Starzakenergy.com). I have an alternative energy producing strategy that is different and less expensive than the photovoltaic solar systems and wind turbines presently used to produce electrical energy. A single rooftop unit using this new approach could convert both solar and wind energies in a single unit. The prototype is presently under construction and I relish the idea of learning the art of carrying a scientific idea all the way to a viable commercial product.
