Module Details

This course comprises Module 3 of the Forensic Health Certificate Program.

This module introduces nurses and other health care professionals to issues related to criminal offending. Content includes: working with violent offenders; ethical dilemmas; crime classifications; the criminal justice system – from case to court; crime theories and criminology; wrongful convictions; offenders in the community: probation and parole; offenders in lock-up: correctional health; reentry; mental illness, substance abuse and violent offending; psychopathy; dangerousness and the duty to protect; perpetrators of intimate partner violence; stalkers; perpetrators of elder abuse; perpetrators of child abuse; juvenile justice system; juvenile offenders; female offenders; sex offenders; Internet predators: traders, travelers and traffickers; offenders who commit homicide; workplace violence; connection between animal cruelty and human violence; health care providers as offenders; and criminal profiling.

This module provides 45 contact hours of instruction.
