Have an hour or two to enjoy free food, live music, and door prizes while making your opinion known on how we can build a better community? On Thursday, March 14 from 5:45-8:00pm, an event will take place in the Mandela Room of the Old Union called “Building Our Vibrant and Enduring Community.” This event welcomes all BU students, alumni, and local residents to discuss how we can create sustainable opportunities.
The themes for this event will include Jobs, Education, Business, Housing, and Social Life. Each of these themes will be discussed at a separate table. Each table will discuss how students and the community can create opportunity within the table’s theme. Each of the discussion leaders are experienced in the field of their discussion table’s theme. The fruits of each conversation will then be presented to the whole group.
There will also be performances by the Crosbys, the University Percussion Ensemble, and the Art School Baseball Team.
This event is co-sponsored by the VP’s office for Student Affairs, the BU office of Continuing Education and Outreach, SUNY BEST, PEGO, Women in Business, Binghamton Neighborhood Project, Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, and Student Alliance for Local Living Economies.
I would recommend this event to those who are interested in new opportunities and connecting with other groups in the community. It would be good to let the community know that there is a significant population of non-traditional students in this area. To make the most out of this event, ask questions that gear the discussion to your needs as a non-traditional student. By creating a larger awareness of non-traditional students, our community will know to take greater strides to serve non-traditional students’ needs as the community does with traditional students.
