Immigration: Shaping the American People
August 18-22, 2008
Workshop Facilitators:
In this workshop, teachers will focus on the multiple
waves of American immigration since the colonial period. Themes include;
factors that movivated
different groups of immigrants, individual and group contributions of
immigrants to American history, responses to immigration over time, in
particular,
persistent strains of nativism in American society, changing national
immigration policy, and the major internal migrations of Americans.
Teachers will develop lesson plans on topics related to these themes that
incorporate the literacy strategies presented at the workshop.
