These include four moderated Book Circle events, a one-day fall conference, and a number of after-school teacher workshops in area schools. Teachers who are interested in joining the Center for one or more of the following activities should contact the Center's Project Coordinator, Thomas Wirth, at (607)777-6769 or via email BOOK CIRCLES Twice each semester the Center offers teachers the opportunity to keep abreast of contemporary historical scholarship with the goal of informing and updating their classroom instruction. The books are announced well in advance and are free to teacher participants.
Each fall the Center invites historians from other institutions to speak on their particular work and approaches to the study of history. The talks are free to the general public but preference is given to social studies teachers and the SUNY Binghamton community. Guests are asked to pre-register for the workshops. AFTER-SCHOOL & ON-SITE TEACHER WORKSHOPS The Center coordinates with area schools and BOCES districts to offer on-site teacher workshops during the school year. These workshops bring the Center's resources directly to the teacher and are generally held as full-day or evening professional development opportunities.
