Nutrition and Fitness Intern reminds students not to skip meals during stressful times!

Nutrition and Fitness Intern Faith Porzilli worked on a program with the Health and Wellness Studies Department to give away bags of trail mix to students attending class in the West Gym. This simple task was intended to remind students of how important it is to not skip meals in times of stress. She tabled for a total of 20 hours this semester, during midterms week and right before finals, encouraging students to take a bag of trail mix and keep it in their backpack for the next time they are stuck in the library without any food!

Sarah Thompson, Lecturer, was nominated not once, but TWICE for a Bearcat Recognition Award. Way to go Sarah!!!

Adjunct Lecturer Wins American Red Cross Real Heroes Award

Matthew Gawors, an adjunct lecturer in the Health and Wellness Studies program, was lifeguarding for the community's Master Swim Program in the early morning on August 2, 2013, when a community member and triathlete experienced an unexpected medical emergency in the pool. With the assistance of other swimmers, Matt coordinated a successful water rescue and transferred the swimmer from the water to the pool deck where medical care was provided. Due to Matt's actions and professionalism, this incident had a happy ending! Kudos!
