Prior to becoming Director of the Engineering Design Division (EDD) in The Watson School, Mike Elmore was a Systems Engineer Senior Staff at Lockheed Martin Systems Integration-Owego and an Adjunct Lecturer at Binghamton University. He holds a B.S.E.E. ('85) degree from the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT, a M.S.E.E. ('88) degree from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, and a Ph.D. ('04) degree from Binghamton University, Binghamton, NY, where he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Research in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He is also a graduate of the General Electric Advanced Course in Engineering.
Dr. Elmore's research interests include control theory, modeling and simulation, and design optimization, as applied to power electronic circuits and electrical power systems. While at Lockheed Martin he was an electrical power systems engineer for the VH-71 Presidential Helicopter and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programs. He designed both military and commercial power electronic circuits while employed at General Electric, IBM and Celestica. In addition to his design and systems experience, Dr. Elmore was a manager with Celestica Corporation in Johnson City, NY. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a member of ASEE.
Mike Elmore also received both his M.Ed. in Secondary School Math Education and his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Vermont. He has been a high school math teacher and has taught adult education courses in mathematics and computer programming.
