Director

Dr. Calvin Gantt is the director of EOP. Calvin is responsible for managing and providing leadership for all aspects of the program. An alumnus of Binghamton and EOP, Calvin returns to assist historically underrepresented students to adapt to the intellectual rigor and social climate of the university, and to achieve academic and personal goals along the way.

Calvin is thrilled to be back at Binghamton. Calvin hopes that his return is a testament to the fact that not only does EOP provide a sound foundation for the students it serves, but also that Binghamton University provides each student with the skills necessary to impact change both locally and internationally. Dr. Gantt is the recipient of the 2012 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Prior to Binghamton, Calvin served as the director for the Access Opportunity Programs (AOP) at SUNY Geneseo. After earning his bachelor's degree from Binghamton University, Calvin received his master's degree in counselor education with a concentration in multicultural counseling from SUNY Brockport, and his EdD in higher education administration from the University of Rochester.

Academic Counselor

Tanairy, a native from Bronx, New York, assists the director with the coordination of the residential component of the Binghamton Enrichment Summer Program (BEP) .   Tanairy is an alumnae of Binghamton University and EOP.  She graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Development, and during her undergraduate career, she was granted the Nell Jackson Memorial Award, and she was involved in several multi-cultural and community service organizations. She is a member of the Gamma Delta Chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon, National Honors Society , and she serves as the faculty advisor for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated. In early 2016, Tanairy obtained her masters degree in Social Work from Binghamton University and joined the Binghamton EOP family as an academic counselor.

Academic Counselor

Joanna assists the director in the logistics and planning of a variety of programs and events. Joanna is an alumna of Binghamton University and EOP. She is a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society, who established the Anders Uwadinobi Scholarship, and she is on the Del Valle Latina/o Memorial Award Selection Committee. Joanna is also the liaison to the Decker School of Nursing, and she helped to establish and is the Staff Advisor to P.U.L.S.E (Powerful United Ladies Striving to Elevate). Joanna has a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Sociology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies and a Masters of Arts Degree in Social Science, Human Development.

Academic Counselor

Erik, a native from Fort Greene, Brooklyn, is the liaison to the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, where he advises students interested in majors such as Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. He assists the director with the planning of courses for the Binghamton Enrichment Summer Program. Erik is an alumnus of Binghamton University and EOP. Erik is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and the National Academic Advisors Association (NACADA). He presently serves as the New York State Representative for Region 1 and is the Region 1 Registration Co-Chair for the Regional Conference. Erik has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and a Master of Arts Degree in Social Science with a Concentration in Student Affairs and Diversity.

Erik loves spending his free time with his family, including four year old Bichon Frise, Elliot. He loves being involved in community services projects, traveling, technology gadgets, jigsaw puzzles and dancing.

Senior Academic Counselor

Karima assists the Director with the planning and logistics for the Binghamton Enrichment Program (BEP). A graduate of BU, Karima earned a BA in geography and MA in Urban and Retail Planning. As a Clifford D. Clark Fellow, her extensive research in race, ethnicity and place has resulted in her current focus on equity, access and leadership development for underrepresented students.

Serving the campus for over a decade, Karima is a Spring 2014 graduate of the Leadership Development Program (LDP), and a recipient of the 2014 Alumni Medal of Distinguished Service. She also serves on the McNair Scholars Advisory Board.

Karima began her career as the associate director of the McNair Scholars Program at Binghamton, where she advised first-generation and underrepresented college students seeking research opportunities and guided them to masters and Ph.D. programs across the country. She is a past board member of the Binghamton YWCA, and a past trustee for the Broome County Public Library. As an undergraduate, Karima volunteered at the Broome County Urban League and established a Pre-College Initiative Program (PCI) at Binghamton High School.

Academic Counselor

Josué (also known as JQ) is a New York native and an alumnus of EOP and Binghamton University (BU) . In 2010, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Master of Social Work in 2012. Formerly, a Resident Director here at BU, Josue also has experience as an Educator and Life Coach committed to moving, inspiring, and empowering students to pursue their passions and to be successful. He has been recognized as a Career Champion by the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development and as an Inspirational Young Latino by the student organization, LASU . Josue assists the director as the Staff Advisor to Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society , and he serves as the liaison to the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, partnering to develop programs for the enhancement of EOP students' career readiness and success.

JQ enjoys collecting sneakers, doing impersonations, beat-boxing, and rapping. In 2008, he was part of the opening act for Grammy nominated artist, Pitbull.

Yulanda Whyte-Johnson

Senior Academic Counselor

Yulanda is the Liaison to the Admissions Office, the Financial Aid & Student Services Office, the Alumni & Parent Office, OIR and the Harpur College Advising Office. She assists the director with the coordination of the EOP Recognition Ceremony, Homecoming events, reports and other fiscal responsibilities. Yulanda is an alumna of EOP at SUNY Oneonta, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees in English and Marriage & Family Therapy respectively. Yulanda is a member of The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Senior Academic Counselor

Vanessa assists the director with the planning and operations of the EOP office. She is the liaison to the School of Management, where she advises students interested in management and accounting majors. Vanessa is also the liaison to the Graduate Admissions office and Harpur Advising Pre-Law program. Here she assists students in their decisions to go on to graduate school at Binghamton or to apply to a law school. Vanessa is an alumna of both Binghamton University and EOP. She serves on the Michael V. Boyd Scholarship Committee, the Jerry E. Cunningham Award Committee, the Binghamton University Foundation Awards and Who's Who Selection Committees. She is a member of Student Affairs Administrator in Higher Education/ National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and College Student Educators International (ACPA). Vanessa established the Binghamton University Gamma Delta Chapter, Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society. She has also served as the Staff Advisor to the Binghamton University Gospel Choir (BUGC).

Vanessa has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and African American Studies and a Master of Science Degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Administrative Assistant to the EOP Director

Jill is the assistant to the director and assists him with many office functions. Jill assists the director, assistant director, and the counselors with administrative aspects of the Binghamton Enrichment Program and fiscal planning for EOP.

Administrative Support to the Counselors

Assist the EOP Counselors in all aspects of work that is needed to efficiently run EOP. Chris works on reports, rosters and uses her exceptional creative talents to help promote various events held by the EOP office.
