The fifth Faculty Senate meeting of the 2005-2006 academic year will be held on Tuesday, May 9, at 11:45 a.m. in UU 133.

a) Approval of degree candidates. Copies of the lists are available for review in the Faculty Senate Office (LS G681) and also will be available at the meeting.


b) Election of 2006-2007 Faculty Senate Procedures Committee. I remain as Faculty Senate Chair for the second year of a two-year term. Pursuant to Article III, Title B, 10.c. of the Faculty Bylaws, the Nominating Committee of the Faculty Senate presents the following slate of nominees:


Vice Chair Sandra Michael (Biological Sciences)

Secretary Sal Agnihothri (School of Management)


c) Annual Reports of Faculty Senate standing committees and others (attached gray)

  d) Resolution re: grading policies - The FSEC recommends that the Faculty Senate adopt the following resolution: 1) The prerogative and obligation of instructors of record are to evaluate and assign grades based on student performance in their courses. 2) Administrators may change grades only in accordance with college prescribed grievance procedures.


e) Strengthened Campus-Based Assessment (attachment). The FSEC recommends that the Faculty Senate adopt the following resolution: 1) that the Senate adopt the portions of the proposal from the provost that deal with critical thinking and writing and assessing the campus environment by using the NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement); 2) the math element be sent back to the Faculty Senate Educational Policy and Priorities Committee with a review by the M general education faculty to determine how Binghamton should engage in the math assessment process.


f) Report by Richard E. Lee, Chair, FSEC, on committee business in spring 2006
