As a digital effects supervisor at Zoic Studios, with offices in Los Angeles and Vancouver, Passionino was honored with a 2003 Emmy for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series for Firefly, a Fox network TV series billed as an "outer-space Western" set some four to five centuries into the future. Passionino was also associate visual effects supervisor for the TV series Angel.
Passionino's work has appeared in a host of movies, including Swordfish, Dr. Doolittle 2, the MGM remake of Rollerball, House on Haunted Hill, Anna and the King, Godzilla and Apollo 13. In addition, he worked on James Cameron's Academy Award-winning Titanic, for which he was part of the groundbreaking team that won Digital Domain it's Oscar for visual effects. His work on Luc Besson's The Fifth Element includes the Corbin Dallas Cab chase through the futuristic digital rendition of New York City.
More recent movies he has worked on include Step Brothers, Prom Night and Quarantine.
