Research Streams

Freshman Research Immersion (FRI) students conduct research in what are known as Research Streams, research courses dedicated to a specific field in sciences and engineering, led by three to five faculty members.

During the fall of freshman year, students in the FRI program participate in a structured Research Stream selection process, which allows them to learn about the Research Streams available, choose their top three favorite Streams and register for the Stream that they've been placed into.

The course sequence for each Research Stream consists of one Research Methods course, followed by two semesters in each student's selected Research Stream.

After FRI, students have a wide variety of opportunities for additional research and internship experience at Binghamton and beyond.
