Mission Statement

The Binghamton University Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation established to raise funds that further the purpose and mission of Binghamton University. Volunteers and staff members, working on behalf of the Foundation, foster and maintain partnerships with alumni, parents, friends and members of the University community.

The Foundation also educates others about charitable giving, matches institutional fundraising priorities with donors' charitable intentions and provides stewardship of all assets held in trust for the benefit of Binghamton University.

Like all public universities, Binghamton builds its budget from four income streams: tuition and fees, sponsored funding, state funding and private giving. Since the 1980s, state support has accounted for a steadily decreasing percentage of the overall budget. This trend makes private gifts even more critical for maintaining Binghamton's excellence.

The stories in the following pages are the stories of Binghamton University. They show how deeply donor contributions affect students and faculty who are working to change their communities and the world, and the tangible impact the Foundation's efforts have on the Binghamton campus every day.

Four stories showcase the variety of ways Binghamton University students benefit from Foundation support — in their summer internships, book purchases, classes and labs, and athletic endeavors.

Three stories highlight the impact our students are making in the community — from serving the public as a law office intern to working with local schools to aid children and families in need of health services.

Through Foundation support, Binghamton University students and faculty continue to make a difference on the international scene as well — most recently in Africa, Russia and the Dominican Republic.

The Foundation takes its role as wise steward of donated resources very seriously and works continuously and diligently to help Binghamton University achieve its strategic goals. By giving to the University through the Foundation, you provide the flexibility the University needs to meet a variety of ongoing, critical needs.

Thank you.
