Ask a Question

Our Best Response:

How do I register for classes?

Class Registration

Students register for classes online through BU Brain. View registration instructions.

New Students

New graduate students will receive an e-mail from The Graduate School prior to the start of the semester containing important information about how to register, activating your Binghamton University e-mail address, completing the health requirement and Code of Ethics, and obtaining a student ID and parking permit. This e-mail will automatically be sent to the e-mail address used on the application for all students who have paid the enrollment deposit or confirmed their intent to enroll.

Registration for new graduate students usually begins on the Monday before classes begin. Check the registrar's calendar for the exact dates. Often, graduate programs prefer that new students wait to register until after they have attended the department orientation session so as to select a schedule that aligns with the program's curriculum. To prepare for registration, however, it will help to review the schedule of classes. Contact your department or program to find out their registration policy.

If a course is closed, it is because the maximum number of students have already registered or the department restricts registration to students matriculated in their degree program. Contact the course's department about registration.

Students who are prior Binghamton University undergraduates or who have previously attended as a non-degree or graduate student in a different program should not register or be registered by the department prior to paying the enrollment deposit and/or confirming their intent to enroll in the new graduate program. Failure to do so will create problems with registration and billing.
