Lyceum is a lifetime-learning association for adult learners over 50 years of age. Affiliated with Binghamton University and Road Scholar (formally known as Elderhostel), it has over 600 local members. Lyceum members are intellectually curious and seek to increase their knowledge of themselves and the world around them.
Lyceum offers its students an opportunity to learn from and among their peers. Classes are held during the day and typically run for a maximum of four weeks. Some courses are designed for listeners, while the majority of classes allow for and encourage discussion and participation. Course leaders are often retired specialists or members who as "amateurs" have pursued their interests in some depth.
In addition to classes, Lyceum offers day trips to exciting locales and ethnic dinners that provide opportunities to socialize and sample foods from other countries and cultures.
We encourage members to help make Lyceum a participatory organization by sharing in policy-making, proposing courses, and assisting in class arrangements and refreshments.
See Lyceum Courses for a catalog of courses offered this semester.
