Harpur Featured Stories
It is a pleasure to share in the duties of introducing the fall issue of our Harpur College magazine. Throughout this website, you will meet students, faculty and staff whose open and rigorous pursuit of knowledge has led to discoveries, creative productions and knowledge that better our world. Their efforts and accomplishments contribute to the vibrancy of our campus, where every fall, we invite new students to become part of our community. Thank you for your dedication to Harpur College. I look forward to meeting many of you in the months to come and to learning what Harpur means to you.
— Anne E. McCall, dean
For the past year, it has been my pleasure to serve as the interim dean of Harpur College. An eyeopening and enlightening time, this experience has reinforced for me the fundamental value of the liberal arts and sciences education for which Harpur is so well known.
Discovery and creativity are at the heart of that liberal arts and sciences education. From the laboratory to the library, and the stage to the studio, these fundamental processes help to drive creativity and inquiry for our students, faculty and alumni. This is, therefore, a very fitting theme for this year’s Harpur Perspective.
With the help of a very dedicated communications advancement team, we have identified some of the most exciting activities on campus during the past year. Students found success both on and off campus. Our faculty continue to be sought-after experts, leaders, scholars and artists around the world, and we see this reflected in this issue as well.
Our alumni also continue to find great success. We recognized several of them at Commencement, but that is just the beginning. As I look back to the first days of Harpur and then to our recent graduates, I continue to be amazed at the diversity of success and the critical role that the liberal arts and sciences play in preparing students to discover their future.
Many of the projects highlighted here were supported through generous donations from our alumni and on behalf of all Harpur students, faculty and staff, let me say thank you. I know that with your continued support the future for Harpur College as the intellectual heart of Binghamton University remains bright.
