OCC SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FACT SHEET

--Students are required to spend a minimum of thirty-five (35) hours per credit hour enrolled at Binghamton at their agencies. Students may enroll for two (2) or four (4) credits for summer session. Specific beginning and end dates, weekly schedules, transportation, cost reimbursements, and learning contracts are negotiated individually.

--Students are responsible for making appropriate arrangements for time-off during school and religious holidays.

--A Binghamton University faculty mentor is responsible for grading students. We will work with students to identify appropriate faculty to oversee the academic work of the program.

--Agencies contribute to the grading process by completing written intern assessment forms during the course of the summer. OCC provides these forms.

--Students will be required to pay tuition for academic credit and any fees associated with their enrollment at Binghamton University.

--Participating agencies are requested to interview acceptable applicants prior to the beginning of the internship and to abide by University Equal Access Policy when selecting from applicants.

--Agencies are encouraged to provide adequate orientation and training for students. Binghamton students have proven to be very responsible, but do best with frequent and appropriate supervision especially during the early stages of the internship. Frequent and constructive criticism about work habits and performance is essential. We realize it is not always possible, practical, or desirable for professional staff to work directly on an hour-to-hour basis with the students but we do request that agency supervisors schedule a weekly one half to one hour meeting to discuss student work and progress.

--Agency personnel should be available during the first week of the internship to get students off to a good start and to sign student-learning contract. If you cannot be available, please ask someone else in your organization to sign the contract.

Please contact us immediately about any problems involving student attendance or performance. Decisions about terminating a student’s internship must be made in consultation with OCC Office.

Thank you for your interest in Off Campus College’s academic programs. Please call us at 607-777-4273 if you have any questions.
