BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY offers many programs and opportunities for students considering a career in the health fields. The Pre-Health Professions Office assists students by providing them with a strong, consistent support network for information and guidance. Students’ interests and intellectual pursuits evolve during their college experience and it is essential that they maintain a continued level of awareness about their fields of interest. Students are given the opportunity to work with a knowledgeable advisor and explore the options available in the fields of medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, and other health professions.

Medicine
Binghamton University students in 2006 (the most recent year available) averaged a 63 percent acceptance rate to medical school, far exceeding the national average of 48 percent. With a highly selective and competitive admission process, students have been accepted into medical schools at Weill (Cornell), NYU, Albert Einstein, Mount Sinai, Wake Forest and others (2006). Binghamton also has articulation agreements with the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. These agreements allow second-semester sophomores the option of participating in early-assurance programs. Acceptance into a program guarantees admission into medical school upon the student’s successful graduation from Binghamton. Students interested in this program should contact the Pre-Health Office in the beginning of their sophomore year.
