BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY offers students the opportunity to prepare for law school while pursuing their choice of majors. Our Pre-Law Advising Program gives students the flexibility to follow their current interests while focusing on their goals. Law schools encourage students to study in any discipline. It is not unusual for someone entering law school to have earned a bachelor’s degree in history, English, political science, philosophy, psychology or economics. One of our most popular majors is Philosophy, Politics and Law. This interdisciplinary program challenges students to contemplate issues from social, moral, historical and legal perspectives. Regardless of the major chosen, students should focus on developing excellent writing, research and analytical skills. Students who are interested in pursuing an honors program are encouraged to contact the appropriate advisor for each major.
The Pre-Law Office assists students by providing them with a strong, consistent support network for information and guidance. Binghamton’s annual Law Day attracts approximately 70 law schools and 600 students.

Outcomes
Nearly ten percent of our senior class applies to law school annually. In 1999, an overwhelming percentage (92 percent) of them was admitted to at least one school of their choice. This means that Binghamton students continue to exceed the national average (78 percent) in gaining admittance to law school. The success rate of our students proves that they are well prepared, and receive a quality education from our accessible, committed faculty. Law schools consider the applicant’s undergraduate grades and Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score as the most important criteria.
