Financial Aid and Scholarships
Binghamton's Financial Aid Services Office will prepare an individualized financial aid package for you including federal grants, loans, institutional scholarships, work study grants, and New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards.
Once you have applied for financial aid by submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will automatically be considered for a wide variety of institutional scholarships, many of which are open only to transfer students.
Also, because some federal and institutional funds are restricted to certain academic programs, especially for students who will be enrolling as juniors, you should indicate your major during the application process. This will permit us to consider you for as many grants and scholarships as possible.
Phi Theta Kappa
For transfer students from a New York State community college who are members of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Binghamton University annually awards partial tuition scholarships. Students must apply by submitting a completed application by the recommended deadline. Awards are based on essay and academic record. Awards are based on your application and academic record.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Binghamton University's FAFSA school code is 002836. To receive full consideration for aid for the Fall semester, you should file the FAFSA online by February 1. For the Spring semester, the deadline is November 15.
If you miss these deadlines, please be aware that you can still file for financial assistance. However, University scholarships are awarded to new and continuing students based on their academic profile and financial need. Funding for need-based aid is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
If your tax information is not available when you file your FAFSA, you may file using estimated income information. You do not need to be accepted at Binghamton University to file; you may list Binghamton as an intended school.
New York State residents are eligible for Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards. If you are determined to be eligible for TAP, a preprinted application will be mailed to you following submission of the FAFSA. TAP applications must be postmarked by March 1 for Fall enrollment and by November 15 for Spring.
Binghamton also assists students in finding part-time employment. For those who qualify, federal work-study jobs are available on campus and with community agencies. The Office of Financial Aid Services maintains a database of other jobs available on- and off-campus.
