The office also houses a collection of printed information on these topics. How to Start an Organization Receiving a Student Association charge can be a valuable asset to your organization. The rights and privileges of being chartered include the ability to reserve space on campus, the right to use the supply room and the right to raise funds. If your group is fundable, you are entitled to apply for money to use for your groups programs and activities. Not all SA-chartered groups are fundable. To get started, a representative from your organization should make an appointment to meet with the SA executive vice president. At that time, you will receive an application for charter, information on necessary meetings to attend, and some guidelines for writing a constitution. Once you have completed the charter application and written your constitution, the next step is a follow-up meeting with the SA executive vice president. He or she will review your constitution, suggest possible changes, and notify you of the date, time and place of the next Rules Committee meeting. The Rules Committee will consider your group according to the provisions outlined in the SA By-Laws, Part 2. You should bring an outline of your groups activities to help convince the committee that the group is worthwhile. Once the Rules Committee makes its recommendation for chartering, your group goes to the Student Assembly for final approval. A charter granted by the Student Assembly grants you the rights and privileges stated above. BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY State University of New York | PO Box 6000 | Binghamton, NY 13902-6000 |
