Music, Dance and Entertainment
Ballroom Dance was formed with the purpose of enhancing cultural and social development in a student community. The club provides lessons with different degrees of difficulty in dancing technique. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.

Binghamton Crosbys are Binghamton’s only all-male a cappella group and one of the top five a cappella groups in the nation. The group consistently appears in the national semifinals of the NCCAs (National Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) sponsored by the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America and Smoking Fish Records, and appeared at the national finals in 1997-98 at Carnegie Hall. Performing a repertoire of pop, rock, R&B and jazz music, the Crosbys present two large concerts each year on campus and appear at many campus events. The group also takes an annual winter tour to Long Island and the spring tour has included treks to Washington, D.C., California and Florida.

Binghamton University Gospel Choir (BUGC) is dedicated to spreading the gospel through song. The choir performs at various colleges, community and on-campus events. The BUGC presents the context, purpose and cultural aspects of gospel music in appreciation of its Afro-American roots of hymn singing, spirituals, blues and jazz. No auditions are necessary; all that is needed is an open heart and mind.

Binghamtonics is Binghamton’s oldest coed a cappella singing ensemble. Its unique style showcases an entertaining blend of jazz, contemporary, popular and alternative songs. In addition to organizing their own show each semester, the "’Tonics" perform for various college and community functions, BU basketball games and charity benefit shows, and have appeared on local radio and television. Binghamtonics’ accomplishments include the production of two albums, *instruments not included (1993) and Hooked on ’Tonics (1995), and various tours and competitions along the East Coast. This ensemble is entirely student run, and prides itself on presenting the humorous and offbeat as well as the mainstream. Auditions are held each semester.

Black Dance Repertoire (BDR) of Binghamton University was founded by three dynamic women in 1985. Our purpose is to entertain the campus community with an outlook on dance in all its forms. We are a diverse organization that has aspired to bring about cultural awareness through the art of black dance. Since its inception, BDR has provided unique expression of an art that is dynamic and vibrant in its rhythmic motion.

Children’s Dance Theatre (CDT)
This performing group is open to all students. All levels of ability are needed. The group organizes in early September and rehearses throughout the fall semester. It encourages student choreography and is dedicated to developing a culturally diverse program. In the spring semester CDT performs for elementary school children in the local schools and for pre-school children on campus.

The DJ Club was formed to help promote and publicize DJs, MCs and producers. If you are into spinning records or producing artists, or you just like hip-hop, rap, reggae or any kind of music, come on down and we’ll take it to the next level.

Harpur Chorale is a select chamber choir of 28 singers. The group maintains a busy schedule of on- and off-campus appearances, including multi-night madrigal dinners and spring tours that have taken the chorale all over the United States, to Puerto Rico and to Europe. The chorale was recently featured on a nationally broadcast PBS radio special, Days of Awe: Music of the Jewish High Holy Days. The group performs music of all styles and periods appropriate for the small chamber choir, with special emphasis on the a cappella literature. Participants may receive up to two credits through the Music Department. Auditions are held each semester during the first week of classes.

Harpur Harpeggios is an all-female a cappella singing ensemble. It is solely student organized, managed and directed, and holds auditions for new members every semester. The diverse style of the Harpeggios includes ballads, oldies and contemporary hits. The group has one big concert per semester, gigs on and off campus, and produces a new album approximately every two years.

Harpur Jazz Ensemble performed for the first time in May 1969. The ensemble has appeared in concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Clark Terry, Slam Stewart, Marvin Stamm, Manny Albam, Don Sebesky, Slide Hampton, Phil Woods, Marion McPartland, Urbie Green, Nick Brignola, Frank Wess, Jimmy Owens, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Doug Sertl, John LaBarbera and others. The emphasis is on learning big band repertoire, and the ensemble has a busy performance schedule concluding with a formal concert featuring a famous guest soloist or conductor.

Harpur Jazz Project is dedicated to live jazz performances. Members share the fun and responsibility of bringing jazz concerts to the University. Members select artists, contact agents and advertise for all performances.

Hinman Production Company (HPC), located in the Hinman Commons, is a student-run community theater group established to provide a forum for both actors and audiences alike to partake in the excitement of theater. From our roots in the ’70s as "The Little Theater that Could" with Paul Reiser, we have now flourished into an ever-growing theater company performing various straight and musical productions. Shows we have performed included: Into the Woods, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Nuts and A Chorus Line. All are welcome to join HPC’s general interest meetings and auditions.

Music Club provides students with an outlet to music on and off campus, including operas, symphonies and possibly even a New York City Broadway show. This club is open to all majors.

Rhythm Method, established in 1993, is Binghamton University’s only ’80s a cappella group. The purpose of our coed group is to bring the joy of singing and creating music to Binghamton University and the surrounding community. We can be found singing on campus, in the community, at other colleges and at collegiate a cappella competitions, throughout the year. We are currently in the process of creating a second album. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. Rhythm Method is your ’80s connection.

University Chorus provides an opportunity to study and enjoy major choral works, leading to performance with orchestra and soloists. Check with the Music Department for audition times. Participants may receive one credit through the Music Department.

University Percussion Ensemble is composed of students who like to hit drums. We perform concerts and attend lectures, but most of all have fun. Auditions are in the beginning of every semester.

University Programming Board (UPB) The University Programming Board is the organization responsible for planning events for the entire campus. Our two annual festivals, Homecoming and Spring Fling, bring out campus spirit in day-long events. We are responsible for screening recently released movies and cult classics in the Lecture Hall on Friday and Saturday nights. In past years, musical groups such as Cypress Hill, Belly, Living Colour and 10,000 Maniacs have performed. If you are interested in helping out, stop by the Student Association Office or call x76503.

University Symphony Orchestra studies and performs music from the symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire. Admission for all string players is via auditions to the String Ensemble Program and, for selected wind, brass and percussion players, via audition to the Wind Ensemble Program. Student participants may receive two credits through the Music Department.

Vibrations is Binghamton University’s only coed a cappella group that specializes in singing those fantastic songs before the 1980s, including the doo-wop and Motown sounds we love so much. "Random sightings" occur anywhere from the West Gym and the Hillside Commons to the library tombs and WHRW. Vibrations performs in numerous on- and off-campus events and looks forward to singing for you. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester and by request.

Women’s Chorus is a select 35-voice women’s ensemble that makes two or three appearances each semester, performing a wide variety of literature of all periods and styles. Each year the group performs one major work for women’s voices, and the chorus is a regular feature of the annual multi-night Madrigal Dinner in December. Its members include undergraduate and graduate singers from every academic department at the University. One credit is available through the Music Department. Auditions are held each semester during the first week of classes.
