April 12, 2011Tweet
The 2011 Great New York State Chili Championship will take place outside the Events Center on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. This event, which is open to the public, is seeking competitors, vendors and judges, as well as aficionados interested in sampling a variety of homemade chili recipes.
Cooking teams from around the state will be on campus for a shot at the state title. The winner of the open competition will receive $500 and the top three finishers will each earn a place at the Chili Appreciation Society International championship event to be held this fall in Texas. Judges will also award prizes for showmanship.
Sodexo Campus Services and the Binghamton University Alumni Association are sponsoring the championship. Money raised will benefit the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) and the Alumni Association’s Legacy Scholarship Fund, which provides support to current Binghamton University students who are children of alumni. In the chili cook-off’s nine-year history, the event has raised more than $25,000 for Binghamton-area charities.
