Women’s tennis team sweeps Bucknell

For the second straight Sunday, Binghamton (2-2) blanked its opponent, as the Bearcats posted a 7-0 shutout over host Bucknell. Similar to the squad’s triumph over Seton Hall, all six Bearcats notched a pair of wins.
“This was a good win for the team to regain our confidence,” head coach Libby McGovern said. “We will use this match to build on our focus and energy.”
Freshman Jennifer Fridman cracked the starting lineup and registered a strong showing with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles. Junior Jillian Santos teamed with the newcomer at third doubles en route to an 8-5 win. Santos posted a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at second singles, improving to 14-5 on the year in singles play.
Junior Marina Bykovskaya was bumped up to first doubles alongside Anna Edelman, as the duo tallied an 8-1 win. Bykovskaya only dropped two games between her doubles and singles matches. She added an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory at fourth singles. Meanwhile, Edelman notched a straight-set win at first singles.
The tandem of senior Yulia Smirnova and junior Emma Leibowicz produced an 8-3 triumph at second doubles. Smirnova recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles, while Leibowicz was a straight-set winner at fifth singles.
