Vice President for Advancement Jim Broschart has announced that Rebecca “Beckie” Benner, who served as interim vice president for advancement for the past year, will assume new duties as associate vice president for advancement, effective immediately. In her role, she will oversee the Binghamton Fund, development communications, stewardship, research, development operations, events and strategic advancement initiatives.
“Beckie’s knowledge and leadership have been mainstays for the Division of Advancement for several years and her guidance for the past year in particular has moved the Division of Advancement forward,” said Broschart. “I’m thrilled that she will use her expertise in advancement operations and strategic planning to enable the division to continue on the positive path she established.”
“The Division of Advancement plays a key role for Binghamton University, enabling us to provide the margin of excellence our students and faculty deserve,” said President Harvey Stenger. “Beckie’s leadership of this vital division over the past year helped us strengthen our relationships with donors, brought a clear focus to our philanthropy efforts and guided successful initiatives that will serve the campus well for years to come.”
“It was an honor to be asked to serve as vice president of the Division of Advancement during the interim and I am very proud of what we did as a team to prepare the division to recruit someone of Jim’s caliber,” Benner said. “The support that I had from the campus community, our volunteer leadership and from our alumni and friends had a significant impact in that success. I look forward to continuing to work as a member of this important organization that will move the campus forward on our pathway to premier.”
During her eight years at Binghamton, Benner has been instrumental to the University’s advancement achievements, providing knowledge, leadership and analysis for day-to-day decision making as well as long-range planning. As campaign director for Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton – The Campaign for Binghamton University, she oversaw a tremendous effort involving more than 30,000 donors. After meeting the campaign’s original goal of $95 million, the bar was set higher at $100 million, and the campaign ended by raising over $101 million to enhance educational opportunities for students, foster innovative research by faculty and strengthen the University overall.
Benner came to Binghamton University in 2006, after 20 years at Illinois State University where she served as director of advancement services and assistant campaign director, moving Illinois State through its first comprehensive campaign. She has extensive background in campaign planning, database operations, foundation accounting, prospect management and research, donor relations and annual funds.
