Homecoming 2010 to take place Oct. 8-10
August 31, 2010Tweet
In just a few weeks, you can enjoy a fall weekend on campus, reconnect with former students you might not have seen in years and show your Bearcat spirit. Homecoming 2010 – planned for Friday-Sunday, Oct. 8-10 – will have a number of events that you won’t want to miss.
On Friday evening, at the opening reception in Old Union Hall, Harpur College Dean Donald Nieman will premiere a video celebrating 60 years of Harpur College history, which includes perspectives from students, faculty and alumni.
Also, the Alumni Association – organizing sponsor of Homecoming – will present its special recognition awards, honoring graduates who have excelled in service to the public and the University. Later that night, you can mingle with colleagues and alumni – and sample the creations of alumni vintners – at the Wine and Cheese Reception outside the Events Center.
Many of the Homecoming 2010 signature events are taking place on Saturday. The largest will be Tailgate ’10 – an outdoor barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m., outside the Events Center. Bring your grills, food, family and friends. Each year, about 1,000 people attend the tailgate party, so it’s a great opportunity to catch up with everyone who has returned to campus for the weekend. Tailgate ’10 leads right into the men’s soccer game against the University of Vermont at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The last two Saturday night Homecoming games have been sellouts with record-high crowds, so visit the box office at the Events Center to purchase tickets as soon as possible. After the game, fireworks will light up the night skies above campus.
