Keegan named America East Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

Senior forward Jake Keegan has been named the America East Player of the Week for Sept. 24-30. It marks the second time in his career that he has received the conference’s weekly accolade.

Keegan, who leads the America East with nine goals and 21 points, scored the game-winner in Binghamton’s 2-1 overtime victory over New Hampshire on Sept. 29. It marked his third game-winning goal of the season and the first to come in overtime.

Through 10 games, Keegan remains one of the top scorers at the NCAA Division I level. He ranks fifth overall with both 2.10 points per game and 0.90 goals per game.

“We are delighted that Jake has been named the America East Player of the Week,” head coach Paul Marco said. “He has always been a consistent performer for us, but this year he has been a little sharper and more of his shots are going in (the net).”

Halfway through the 2012 campaign, Keegan already has set his career highs in goals and total points. He is the first Binghamton player to score nine goals in a season since Cameron Keith recorded the same total during the 2008 season. In addition, he is the first Bearcat to reach 20 total points in a season since Keith finished the 2008 season with 21 points.

Over his career, Keegan has scored more goals (26) and recorded more points (64) than any player during Binghamton’s 12-year NCAA Division I era. He has led Binghamton in scoring three times (2009 and 2011 were the other seasons) and has three two-goal performances.

The other time Keegan was named the America East Player of the Week came on Oct. 5, 2010. In addition, he was also named the conference’s Rookie of the Week on Oct. 18, 2009.

Binghamton (5-5-0, 1-0-0 AE) travels to Albany for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday.
