13 new new players to join men’s lacrosse
TweetThirteen players will join the Bearcats men’s lacrosse team for the 2011 season.
The class includes 11 players from the state of New York along with one from Maryland, as well as the first international recruit coming from Canada.
From Long Island come midfielders Alex Doerflein (Rockville Center/Southside), Kevin McDonough (Oakdale/St. Anthony’s), defenders Greg Cove (Rockville Centre/Southside) and Josh Potter (Port Washington/Port Washington) and goalie Max Schefler (East Meadow/ East Meadow).
Garrett Augustyn (Snyder/Amherst) and Shawn Needham (Hamburg, Hamburg) are both defenders from the Buffalo area.
Locally, the Bearcats landed a pair of attackmen in Kyle Bakker (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) and Brandon Planck (Cortland/Cortland).
Rounding out this year’s incoming class are attackmen Michael Antinozzi (Fallston/Fallston) and Kelly Donigan (Skaneateles/Skaneateles), midfielder Jordan Trip (Aurora, Ontario/St. Andrews) and defender Ed Kashmer (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse).
“First and foremost, these are fine young men of strong character and exceptional academic credentials,” head coach Ed Stephenson said. “We have a long-established culture of academic excellence in our program, and these incoming student-athletes will surely add to it. This group is also gifted athletically and will no doubt increase our depth and raise our level of play. I am looking forward to working them.”
