Binghamton University student-athletes surpassed the 3.0 mark for the 16th consecutive semester and made it three semesters in a row above a 3.1, the school announced Jan. 13. Binghamton’s 407 athletes achieved a 3.15 GPA for the fall semester - the highest fall GPA in 13 years.
Led by the women’s soccer team, which captured the department’s Academic Cup with a lofty 3.46 GPA, Binghamton student-athletes continued their penchant for academic success as nearly two-thirds of the entire student-athlete body (257) reached the 3.0 threshold and nearly one-third (126) eclipsed the 3.5 mark.
“We continue to be very proud of the academic success of our student-athletes and especially the tremendous results achieved this past fall semester,” Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott said. “Our student-athletes are committed to excellence both in and out of the classroom and they also demonstrate leadership, scholarship and service. They truly embody our motto of ‘Excellence with Honor.’”
The 3.15 average is the highest since Spring 2011 and is the third-highest semester GPA mark during the University’s 13-year NCAA Division I tenure.
Ten student-athletes spanning eight different teams earned a perfect semester GPA of 4.0.
