Volleyball team drops America East opener
TweetSenior captain Michelle McDonough had a game-high 18 kills for the Binghamton volleyball team in a conference-opening loss to UMBC.
The Bearcats dropped their first America East match of the season 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 20-25, 21-25), bringing their overall record to 5-11 on the year.
Binghamton jumped out to a one-set lead, but could not hold off UMBC. The Retrievers out-hit BU .265 to .145. UMBC found its defense behind a 10-3 blocking advantage, creating difficult attacking opportunities for the Bearcats.
Anna Lejina tallied a double-double for Binghamton with 15 kills and 13 digs, while junior setter Julie Chambers dished out 38 assists. Freshman libero Xiomara Ortiz had a game-high 16 digs for the Bearcats.
