Binghamton wrestling won two of three matches at the Journeymen Northeast Duals, held Nov. 27 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. The Bearcats defeated Sacred Heart, 35-9, and Stanford, 22-13 and dropped a tough 18-15 match to Northern Iowa.
After rolling over Sacred Heart, Binghamton looked to have a victory secured against Northern Iowa, but watched a 15-9 lead slip away in the final two bouts. A pin at heavyweight gave the victory to the Panthers. The Bearcats finished the day with a comfortable win over Stanford.
Senior 141-pound Anwar Goeres, junior 165-pound Matt Kaylor and sophomore 149-pound Donnie Vinson each went a perfect 3-0 on the day.
Goeres earned a pin, a major decision and a decision to raise his record to 9-2 this season. Kaylor, a team-best 11-3 overall, picked up a major decision and two decisions and Vinson (8-2) collected a major decision, decision and default.
Junior No. 8 Justin Lister went 1-1 at 157, losing a 6-4 decision against Northern Iowa before posting an 11-1 major decision vs. Stanford. Sophomore No. 14 Nate Schiedel won his two matches to improve to 9-3 overall.
