Kudos

The Anderson Center and its acoustics are featured on Bryan Adams’ Bare Bones solo album. When Adams appeared at the Anderson Center on June 14, 2010, as part of his solo acoustic “Bare Bones” tour, he was so taken with the acoustics of the Osterhout Concert Theater that he asked to stay on after the show ended to re-record a few of the songs. As a result, eight out of 20 songs on that live album were recorded at the Anderson Center.

Binghamton University Scholar Maura McDevitt, an undergraduate majoring in English and political science, has had her paper, ”The Historical Transformation of Arthurian Literature”, accepted for presentation at the 2011 Northeast Regional Honors Conference in Portland, Me, March 31-Apr. 3.

Binghamton University Scholar Emily M. Greene, an undergraduate in the Department of Chemistry, has been invited to give a presentation titled, “Hydration of 2’-Fluoro Modified RNA” at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research being held at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., March 31-Apr. 2.

Professor of Chemistry Eugene Stevens’ book, Green Plastics: An Introduction to the New Science of Biodegradable Plastics, served as the foundation for a five-month research project by high school students in Detroit, who formulated a bioplastic for shoe insoles. The project was sponsored by the Detroit Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers and took place at ECOTEK, an organization that supports research projects conducted by middle and high school students interested in science or engineering careers.

New York State University Police Officer John Pelletier was first on the scene after observing a car fire on the 201 bridge near campus the morning of Dec. 20. Pelletier showed bravery and level-headedness as he kept the injured driver safe in his car until the ambulance arrived. Icy conditions had caused the driver to slide off the road and into the concrete barrier, where the car immediately caught fire. The motorist suffered from burns but will recover.
