Enjoy two holiday concerts Dec. 12| December 9, 2013
The Binghamton University Music Department will burst with holiday festivities Thursday, Dec. 12, with the Holiday Mid-Day Concert at 1:20 p.m. in Casadesus Recital Hall and the Harpur Chorale and Women’s Chorus Holiday Concert at 8 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Church (44 Main Street, Binghamton). Get into the holiday spirit with iconic jingles, booming voices and much more!
The Mid-Day concert will feature Binghamton University faculty and student performers showcasing a variety of holiday music classics. This concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
The Harpur Chorale, directed by Peter Browne featuring organist Daniel Rosenau, and the Women’s Chorus, directed by Associate Professor Bruce Borton and graduate student Thom Baker, featuring Georgetta Maiolo, flute, and Emily Goetz, marimba, will perform a holiday choral concert that evening. Their program will include “O Magnum Mysterium” by Ned Rorem, “African Noel” by Andre Thomas, “Hanukkah Blessings” by Ron Jeffers, “Winter Cantata” by Vincent Persichetti, “Le sommeil de l’enfant Jesus” a traditional French carol arranged by Ron Jeffers, “Epiphany Alleluias” by John Weaver and much more! This concert is free (but a good-will offering will be received at the door) and open to the public.

Library end-of-semester extended hours| December 9, 2013
The Libraries have end-of-semester extended hours to accommodate study and research needs in preparation for finals. Our extended hours are as follows:
Bartle Library and the Information Commons will be open 24 hours from December 6-19.
UDC Library will extend hours until midnight from Friday, Dec. 13 to Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Science Library will extend hours until 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 and will be open from noon-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

Writers sought for ‘Ask a Scientist’| December 9, 2013
The Binghamton University "Ask a Scientist" program is seeking contributors. In a partnership with the Press & Sun Bulletin, faculty and staff answer questions submitted by area schoolchildren. Answers, which run 250-400 words, are published in the newspaper and appear on the University’s website. Deadlines are flexible. Join us for Research Days| December 9, 2013
Binghamton University will celebrate research with a series of events on March 26-28, 2014. Faculty members, academic departments and programs, and student groups are invited to plan events related to research. This year, organizers have chosen to focus on ethics as a theme. Jonathan D. Moreno, the David and Lyn Silfen University Professor of Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania, will give a keynote address on Wednesday, March 26. Also a professor of medical ethics and health policy, of history and sociology of science, and of philosophy, he specializes in the intersection of bioethics, culture, science and national security. He is also a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. His most recent book is Mind Wars: Brain Science and the Military in the 21st Century. The schedule will include open labs, seminars, poster sessions, tours, speakers and more. Faculty members are encouraged to take several minutes during class on one of those days to introduce themselves as scholars. For additional information, go online

EAP workshop: Holiday Hula| December 9, 2013
Did you happen to partake in the first Hula happening in January? Well, do not fret; you have another chance to join in some serious fun with our own Jennie Bruns, hula dancer and enthusiast, from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Campus Rec Room 24. All are welcome, regardless of dance experience. Bruns will walk us through the basic steps, postures, hand motions, as well as Hawaiian culture and language.
