Work near Anderson Center entrance begins Oct. 26

Work to remove a brick wall, tiles and replace stairs adjacent to the Anderson Center main entrance will begin Monday, Oct. 26, when staging and general demolition of the steps and landing leading to lot D will begin. The main entrance will remain accessible during the work. A temporary walkway with lighting has been constructed to continue to provide access to lot D from the main entrance area. The project involves installation of new stairs and railings, replacement of tiles and the addition of a planter. Work is expected to be complete by December. The main entrance will be affected when tiles are replaced in that area, however access will be maintained. Contact project coordinator Gary Bendert with any questions via e-mail

Binghamton University will celebrate research with a series of events April 13-15, 2016. The theme will address the necessity of challenges and setbacks in achieving success in the research/creative work process. Ainessa Ramirez, a science evangelist who is passionate about engaging the public, will give a keynote address the evening of Wednesday, April 13. Ramirez, who holds a PhD in materials science and engineering, has authored more than 50 technical papers, holds six patents and has presented her work worldwide. She speaks to audiences internationally about the importance of making science accessible to all. More details about the keynote address and other Research Days events will be available as the date approaches.

The 2015 State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) Campaign is kicking off. Faculty and staff will receive information in their campus mailbox this week about the campaign that supports local agencies. Last year, employees generously donated more than $63,000 to the campaign. Donations can be directed to specific agencies and may be designated to local agencies to assist individuals in the local community. Individuals who donate a minimum of $78, or just $3 per paycheck, before Tuesday, Dec. 1, will have their names entered into a drawing for $50 gift certificates from local stores and restaurants, donated by the President’s Office. SEFA contributions can be made online through payroll deduction, or by checks sent to Cornelia Mead, SEFA Committee Chair, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Putting information literacy into practice workshop series

Campus librarians are offering a series of workshops exploring the six new information literacy threshold concepts
(or frames) supported by the Association of College and Research Libraries. Each session will include an introduction to the concept, three lesson plans for utilizing the concept in a class setting and discussion. This series is geared toward instructors and librarians who use information literacy and information management in their courses.

Nominate for Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities

Nominations are being requested for the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, to recognize excellence in research or creative activity conducted at Binghamton University in the sciences, engineering, social sciences, arts and humanities.
