Cross-Cultural Programs Sponsored by the
Office of International Students and Scholar Services,

2012 Series

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services sponsors a variety of programs for our students. We encourage you to participate in as many as possible. You will find them informative, interesting, and often a lot of fun! It's a wonderful way to broaden your exposure to US culture and add to your understanding of your temporary "home." More information on these programs will be sent to you later this semester.

ENGLISH CONVERSATION PAIRS

Co‑sponsored with the English as a Second Language Program, it matches English as a Second Language (ESL) students with native speakers to facilitate the practice of conversational English.

INTERNATIONAL SPOUSES PROGRAM

The International Spouses program (ISP) is for spouses of Binghamton University students and scholars from around the world. The ISP offers its members free, weekly ESL instruction.

FRIENDSHIP FAMILY DINNER

Co-sponsored by the President’s Office, it is held each fall to bring together all of our friendship families and students, both old and new.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS

Co‑sponsored with the Career Development Center, this series of workshops explains federal regulations governing practical training, and strategies for a successful job search, offered each semester.

INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE

U.S. tax law is very confusing, and not just to international students! Glacier Tax Prep is a web-based income tax preparation product that is available at no cost to international students. On-line income tax webinars provide a general over view of income tax rules and line-by-line assistance with state income tax forms.

GRADUATION RECEPTION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

These receptions are held each December and May. The graduation reception is a time to honor the achievements of our diverse international student population.

INTERNATIONAL COFFEE HOUR

The Coffee Hour strives to be a space where the entire Binghamton University community, including international students, U.S. students, faculty/staff, and community members are welcome. Held on the first Friday of each month, coffee hours are informal and provide an opportunity to meet and learn more about each other in a relaxed atmosphere. See the Spring semester schedule below.
