1. OPT Filing Deadline for Spring 2016 Graduates

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is employment authorization for international students in F-1 visa status in a job related to your academic major after graduation. You do not need a job offer to apply for OPT.

If you graduated in the Spring 2016 semester (May 22, 2016 graduation date), USCIS must RECEIVE your OPT application by Thursday, July 21. If your application is received by USCIS after this date, your application will be automatically denied.

You must submit the Academic Advisor's Recommendation Form for Optional Practical Training to the ISSS Office prior to Thursday, July 14 so a new OPT I-20 can be created and to allow time to mail your OPT application to USCIS.

If you still have questions after reading the above information, please visit ISSS Walk-In Advising Hours for additional guidance. Walk-in Advising Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10:00am to 11:45am and Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. You can also email intlwork@binghamton.edu.

2. Arrival of New International Students

If you happen to meet a new international student prior to Wednesday, August 10, please be sure to direct them to the ISSS (Bartle Library, Ground Floor, Room 500) during regular business hours.  New students should bring their immigration documents (Passport, Visa and I-20/DS-2019).  The ISSS is recording new student arrivals and distributing helpful early arrival information.  After August 10, you should encourage new students to check-in with ISSS during their scheduled orientation dates.

3. Binghamton's 54th Annual July Fest

Binghamton's July Fest returns to downtown Binghamton bigger and better than ever with something for everyone – art, music, crafts, races and great food. This downtown celebration will start on Friday, July 8 and continue through Sunday, July 10! Click here for additional information.

4. Summer at the Rec Center

Campus Recreation's summer schedule is now posted online. The Rec Center is also offering free summer activities for current faculty, staff and students.
