1. Important Information for Those Who Will Graduate in Summer 2016

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services reminds students that if you will graduate in Summer 2016, you must do two things:

  • You must be registered for the Summer.  If you are not registered full-time, you must submit a Reduced Course Load Due to Completion of Study form to the ISSS office.
  • You must file a "Graduate Application for Degree" if you are a graduate student, or     an "Application for Degree", if you are an undergraduate student. Both of these forms are available on BU Brain. Once you are signed in, press the "Student Tab" and scroll down until you see the forms.

Failure to take care of both steps may have negative consequences for your immigration status if you are an F-1 or J-1 student and have a SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 with a summer completion date.

2. OPT Application Process for Summer 2016 Graduates

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is employment authorization for international students in F-1 status. OPT allows you to work in a job related to your academic major after graduation. You do not need a job offer to apply for OPT.

If you are graduating this Summer 2016 semester, you can apply now for OPT. You may pick an OPT start date between August 20, 2016 and October 18, 2016. It takes 3 months to receive an EAD card so please keep this in mind when picking your start date. Visit choosing a start date for OPT to learn more about picking your OPT start date.

To learn how to apply for OPT please visit, How to apply for OPT.

If you still have questions after reading the above information, please visit ISSS Walk-In Advising Hours for additional guidance. Walk-In Advising Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 11:45am and Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30pm-3:30pm. You can also email intlwork@binghamton.edu.

3. Summer at the Rec Center

Campus Recreation's summer schedule is now posted online. The Rec Center is also offering free summer activities for current faculty, staff and students.
