This year SHPE-Binghamton Chapter has expanded our charter to include providing real life experience to our members, and engineering assistance to communities in need. The objectives of this project are to design and implement a water distribution system that will improve the quality of life of this impoverished community.
Currently, the community’s drinking water is highly contaminated as results inhabitants of the community suffer problems caused by e-coli bacteria. Senior Students from the Industrial and System Engineering major have taken on the challenge of creating the design based on information gathered during their visit to Rio Hondo through this activity students will hopefully experience the rewards that such service learning can provide, and continue to give back through the rest of their careers. This initial project will serve as a pilot program for future projects, to benefit our members and help improve the quality of life of the community.
