He’s a Supercommuter!

Associate Professor of Biological Sciences Julian Shepherd has been a bike commuter for 48 years, making his 7-mile daily trip to campus and back on a Jamis cyclocross bike. For his dedication, Shepherd was named a Supercommuter by PlanetBike, a producer of bicycle products.

The recognition honors individuals who prefer to ride a bike β€” in all seasons and all types of weather β€” rather than drive a car. He was nominated by his friend and colleague, Matthew Johnson, who said: β€œThe only time I saw him not go to work on a bike is when there was so much snow that he skied to work instead.”
