TweetSpring 2012
Adam Cohn and Michelle Friedman, both ’05, were married in Springfield, N.J., on March 26, 2011. There were 25 Binghamton University alumni in attendance, including surprise guest Baxter the Bearcat. Adam and Michelle met as freshmen and shared excitement for the school’s brand-new Division I athletics. But Binghamton lacked spirit, Adam says: “Heck, I couldn’t even buy a Binghamton basketball T-shirt at the bookstore!” So he pitched in, helping to plan Midnight Madness and name the Bearcat mascot. Later he was festivals coordinator (Homecoming, Spring Fling) for the University Programming Board.
Ira Glasser ’05 invited Baxter (although they were never seen together). Baxter danced into the hall to the song Do the Bearcat, sporting a tuxedo tie and Binghamton Hillel yarmulke.
“Everyone went crazy,” Adam says, “and Michelle was completely surprised!”
Michelle’s parents, Marty Friedman ’75 and Debbie (Dash) Friedman ’77, also met at Binghamton — on a raquetball court.
Marty is in the Athletics Hall of Fame for soccer.
Alumni at the wedding included Adam Cohn, Michelle Friedman, Jamie Forest Garfinkel (maid of honor), Jan Dittmar, Michael Lozito, Chris Ringwald, David Berg, David Abramowitz, Sean Gilman, Zach Sciarabba, Josh Diamond, Chana Topek Diamond, Ira Glasser, Erica Nasonte and Stacey Wolff, all ’05; Joanna Efstathiou-Dittmar (bridesmaid) and James Devlin, both ’04; Marisa Cohn Disimile (sister of groom and bridesmaid), David Garfinkel, Rory Hood and Megan Churnetski, all ’03; Diane (Lehneman) Friedman ’95 (Michelle’s cousin); Debbie (Dash) Friedman ’77 (bride’s mother); Debbie Schwartz ’76; Joe Bartner and Marty Friedman (bride’s father), both ’75; and Joseph Slater ’73 (cousin of Adam’s father).

Adam and Michelle honeymooned in Argentina; here they are in Glaciers National Park, wearing T-shirts that Baxter gave them. They live in New York City. Adam works at Halyard Asset Management, a firm he started with two former colleagues. Michelle works for a hedge fund.
